Writing Tool: The notecard

It’s very simple. Buy some note cards. Writing will suddenly become simple…

I buy them in bulk at the Dollar Store. I use them like a mad man. I put them in a little box on my desk. Every time I need  one — There they are.

-Outlining

I write down each scene. I lay them out on the floor, feeling like a real writer, and then move them about, adjusting the script.

-Bookmark

May seem obvious, but when you’re researching and find something important — grab a note card. Mark the page.  Jot down a note. Suddenly you’re organized.

-Proofreading

I color the edge black or red. I use that edge to go through each line of the script. The black/red helps my eyes stay focused.

I use note cards for dreaded math hw. I write down equations — See I do other things than sit around and write movies…

I write down grocery lists, my weekly budget; easy to slip in your pocket and easy to throw away and do another. No issues.

I also use note cards for inspiration. I write myself a question or statement like “You should be working” or “The next script could be the one”. I tape these to my computer. Everyday I’m forced to read it: A small reminder.

Go get some note cards for your writing desk. Take advantage.

Always be writing.

I have the same exact habits with my own writing. I find them to be very useful!
